The geothermal heat pump uses fluid to absorb heat from the ground and then transfers that heat to the air in your home. A geothermal heat pump requires electricity to run the compressor unit where heat is removed from the fluid and transferred to the air. But compared to the amount of energy required by other types of home comfort systems, this energy consumption is relatively low.
